Our brief

SLS Design Consultants were appointed by Central England Co-operative to provide structural engineering services for converting the existing Somerset Public House in Calow into a supermarket. The existing public house was opened up internally at ground floor by providing steel framing to allow removal of the load bearing brickwork walls. The steel framing was supported on concrete spreader beams off the existing basement walls to reduce foundation works. A small single storey steel frame extension was provided at the rear of the property off traditional pad footings. The existing external façade was sympathetically restored to maintain the character of the building.
