Our brief

SLS Design Consultants were appointed by H&M to provide structural engineering services for the refit of their store in Hammersmith. The refit was extensive and involved a whole new glazed shopfront designed to resist explosion forces with feature hanging baskets supported from the façade. New steel framing was designed and detailed for the elevation to support the new façade. The existing escalators were removed from the store with these replaced with a customer feature staircase designed to suit H&M’s requirements. The existing escalator floor openings were partially infilled to suit the new stair structure. A new customer lift was installed which included a new reinforced concrete pit, steel trimming for openings at floor levels and a steel framed lift shaft to reduce loads to the foundations. The project was completed with safety regulations in mind as well as cutting edge technology to deliver bespoke structural design solutions.
