Our brief

To refurbish a prestigious four-storey building in Sheffield.

SLS was appointed on a design and build project associated with the refurbishment of a prestigious 4 storey office development in the centre of Sheffield. We were required to remodel the internal space, transforming the existing design into cellular office accommodation with leisure facilities.

Through this project, we were able to implement new features into space, using a services core to provide changing rooms and showers for workers and visitors to use.

As the building was located adjacent to a river, we discovered that the foundations were originally a heavily reinforced deep raft slab supported on piles. This proved to be a challenge when it came to installing below ground drainage pipes. However, we were able to work around this and, to avoid cutting the floor slab, we utilised a disused floor zone to re-route new drainage runs.
